From Query to Yes! How Denise J. Thompins found a home for Legacy!

The Query Jungle:

Can you please share the query that got you a yes?

Looking back, she should have been more specific—much more specific—because that one wish changed everything.  The upside was that she found love.  The downside was that people died for it.  Including her…sort of.

Madeleine Niteclif is catapulted into the world of dark mythology after she makes a wish for an altered reality on Midsummer’s Eve.  That same night, a man named Bahlin strolls through her dreams.  When he shows up the next day and claims he’s a shapeshifting dragon and insists Maddy is the prophesied Niteclif, super-sleuth of the supernatural world, Maddy thinks she’s kissed sanity farewell. But a series of discussions, a partial shift by Bahlin from man to dragon, and a never-to-be-mentioned-again fainting spell combine to convince her he’s the real deal.

Mike Mullin Author of ASHFALL interview!

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me about the release of Ashfall!  Congratulations!  Please start by telling us a little bit about yourself- the person behind the writing? (think of this as your bio)

A)     I always feel like I’m writing a personals ad when I write about myself. Hi, MMWW (married male white writer) here, seeking PYAN (perfect young adult novel). I’ll obsess over you 24-hours a day, talk about you until my other friends hate you, and alternate between spastic fits of writing and avoiding you with any mind-numbing activity that’s handy, like playing solitaire with a 49-card deck.

When we’re not together, I’ll be reading other novels. (It’s not cheating if all you do is read.) I also like to ride my bicycle, train in taekwondo, and go for long walks in the woods.

Why don’t you tell us about the book?

A)     Fifteen-year-old Alex Halprin struggles to survive and find his family after the Yellowstone Supervolcano erupts, plunging the U.S. into a cataclysmic natural disaster.

That won’t fill up the back of the book, will it? Well, let’s see. What else do they usually stick there? How about these:

Legacy preorder interview with Denise Tompkins

Denise Tompkins is here to promote the preorder for her book Legacy, published by Samhain.  The great news is you can preorder the book now at a discount directly from the publisher.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me about the release of Legacy!  Congratulations!  Please start by telling us a little bit about yourself- the person behind the writing?

A) I live in the heart of the South, where your neighbors still know your name, all food forms are considered fry-able and bugs die only to be reincarnated three-fold. My favorite season here is definitely Fall, when the gardens are just about to pass into Winter’s silence, and the leaves are out to prove that nature is the most brilliant artist of all.

Come read about the inspiration of HUNT by Patti Larson

Thank you for taking the time to chat with my about the release of Hunt !  Congratulations!  Please start by telling us a little bit about yourself- the person behind the writing?

A) I know you don’t want the shiny, polished version, right? I’m a writer by choice and passion who finally took a chance and committed to it. I adore summer above all other seasons if only we could get rid of bugs. I’m a blonde and always will be no matter what Mother Nature thinks. I work far too much and love every second of it even when I’m suffering from severe writer brain. And I’m addicted to the voices in my head. I joke about wishing they would leave me alone, but I really love having them around. Sometimes they are all that exists of my social life.

Why don’t you tell us about the book?

A) Hunt is the fourth and final book of The Hunted series, all YA thrillers. The novels are based on Reid, a sixteen-year-old foster kid, who has been rescued from the system by his screwed up sister only to find himself kidnapped and dumped in a wild stretch of New England forest. With no idea why he is there or what is happening, he is forced to run from the hunters who pursue him and other kids with the sole purpose of killing them. Hunt delivers the resolution to Reid’s story.

Author Paige Harbison: Author of New Girl

Thank you for taking the time to chat with my about the release of New Girl!  Congratulations!  Please start by telling us a little bit about yourself- the person behind the writing?

A) I’m 21 years old, and just graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts. My first book was Here Lies Bridget, which came out earlier this year—it also just got optioned, so we may be seeing it on the big screen!

Why don’t you tell us about the book?

New Girl is a modern whodunit, taking place in a boarding school. The popular girl from last year is gone—but is she still out there? Or did someone kill her? If so, then who—her best friend, boyfriend, or someone else? It’s a adaptation of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

From the back cover:

I hadn’t wanted to come, but my parents were so excited…. So here I am, the new girl at Manderly, a true fish out of water. But mine’s not the name on everyone’s lips. Oh, no.
